Ayla has well and truly been into her shapes recently so I put together a really quick puzzle so we could learn what they were called as well as the colours. The last few days shes been lining up her cars so I think she’s exploring the positioning schema so this one is perfect.

Suitable for: 2 Years +
Set up: 10 minutes
Resources
- White paper
- Coloured Paper
- Matching coloured pens to the paper
- Scissors
The set up
Cut out as many different shapes as you like, making sure every shape has one of each colour. Draw your shapes onto the white paper and the activity is ready to go.
Making the Most out of the activity
This one is great for learning shapes and colours as well as mathematics, we counted together how many shapes there were and how many we had left to do and used language like “more” and “less”. It also gives them a chance to problem solve and helps with physical development because they need to pick up the paper which can be tricky and place it inside the correct shape.
