Recycled Bee

If you are looking for a spring time craft and you have some toilet roll tubes…. Take a look at these Bee’s!! Ayla (3) loved making her very own bee and did it with very little support from me!

Suitable for: 2 years +
Set up: 5 minutes

Resources

  • Toilet roll tube
  • Black, white and yellow paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Googly eyes

The set up

Cut the paper into strips and lay them out on the table along with the toilet roll tube, glue and googly eyes. That’s it. Then you are ready to go!

Making the Most out of the activity

When Ayla showed interest in the bits on the table I suggested we could make a bee! I asked Ayla what she knew about Bees which she quickly told me they buzz!

I made my bee alongside Ayla and found that she was copying the way a was wrapping the paper around the bee, so I stopped making my bee to allow her use her own ideas! As she found wrapping the strip around the bee frustrating I suggested rolling the tube onto the glued paper which worked really well! Ayla then independently wrapped her bee up giving him his stripes and taking great care in covering the whole toilet roll tube.

When it comes to crafts I tend to step back and let Ayla express herself. This helps children to problem solve and be totally creative, leaving us to support them when they need some help.
