Foam Car Wash

By using bubble bath and a little squirt of paint or food colouring you can make this amazing sensory bin filler for your child to explore in numerous ways from cleaning cars to blowing the bubbles off of their hands!

Suitable for: 1 year +
Set up: 20 minutes
Resources

  • Paint or food colouring
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup bubble bath or body wash
  • Mixing bowl
  • Electric whisk (you can use a hand whisk, in fact I did but it takes a lot longer to whip up the foam)
  • Tray to pop the foam in
  • Cars, scoops bowls or anything else you would like the add into the tray.

The set up

Squirt a little paint or food colouring into your cup of water and mix it together. Once the water has taken the colour of the paint or food colouring pour the coloured water and 1/2 a cup of bubble bath into a mixing bowl and whisk together until stiff peaks form. Repeat this with as many colours as you like! When you are ready add the foam to your tray alongside cars or anything else you would like to use and you’re good to go.

Making the Most out of the activity

Sensory play is great because it offers an opportunity for your child to lead their play however they like by making up a story, emptying and filling containers or exploring the textures. While we were playing with the foam we explored all of the areas mentioned above by following Ayla’s lead. We even explored what happened when we blew the bubbles, how the colour of the bubbles changed when they were dunked into normal water and how the cars were feeling.
