We mixed some coco powder in with flour and veg oil to make some cloud dough which created a really effective edible mud sensory filler! What’s even better is Ayla played with it for over an hour and it only took 6 minutes to clean up (yes I timed it for you guys!) And I had an Ayla requesting food and various other things like they do while I was tidying up!

Suitable for: 6 months +
Set up: 10 minutes
Resources
- 5 cups of plain flour
- 1/2 Cups of coco powder
- 1 cup of vegetable oil
- Tray
- Cars
The set up
Mix the flour and coco powder together in a bowl, when it’s all mixed together pour in the veg oil and mix it all together again. The mixture should be similar to damp sand and mold together but not be gooey. Once you are happy with the consistency pop it into your tray alongside the construction vehicles.
Making the Most out of the activity
I did add letters into the tray for Ayla to unbury and recognise but she quickly removed them and threw them to one side! So you can always add letters or numbers in if you would like to add some extra opportunities in there!
Let your little one explore the tray and see where their imagination takes you, we dug holes in the tray for the digger to then fill in again, made a road on the floor by pushing the cloud dough together and then dug it up to fix the broken pipe, plus so much more all lead by Ayla!
And you don’t have to use cars, the filler is essentially edible mud so you can add in minibeasts, farm animals, tractors or anything else that might be found in mud!
