Dry Gloop – Spider Rescue

Benefits of Playing With Dried Gloop

  • Problem Solving Skills: By testing their ideas as they explore the items with in the tray and discover the best way to break the gloop.
  • Fine Motor Skills: As they use the hand held tools to break the gloop. As well as using their hands to crumble, squeeze and poke the mixture.
  • Creativity and Imagination: As they create a story line based around their play like digging through the dry mud to save all of the spiders.

Extending Dried Gloop Play

Once your preschooler has finished breaking the gloop pass them a squirt bottle filled with water. As they squirt the water onto the dry gloop it will begin to return to it’s original consistency.

Making The Gloop

Just Grab:

  1. 250g or 1 1/2 Cups of Corn Flour / Cornstarch
  2. 120ml or 1/2 Cup of Water
  3. 20g 1/4 cup of Cocoa Powder

  1.  Fill a jug with 120ml of water then add 1/4 cup of cocoa powder. Mix to combine
  2. Shake 1 1/2 cups of corn flour into the tray and slowly pour in the water, stopping the mix it occasionally. As the gloop gets thicker it can become hard to mix with a spoon so use your hands to finish combining the mixture.
  3. Once the mixture is runny when you are gentle with it and crumbles when you are rough with it you have your gloop.
  4. Place your plastic spiders, insects or whatever else you are hiding within the tray then leave it to dry overnight.

Creating The Activity

Once the gloop has dried, find a selection of; spoons, bowls and anything else you have to create a muddy rescue activity.

To extend the activity further remember you can add water which will bring the gloop back to its usual consistency.
